After working through a growing list of NOs, I knew it was time to shift gears and ask a different question:
👉🏾 What is it that I actually enjoy doing?
So, I audited my career to date, across corporate roles, Customer Success, and even academia and discovered a clear thread of interests and strengths.
Immigration Compliance (Corporate)
I absolutely loved:
- Diving deep into immigration laws across jurisdictions — from high-skilled work permit requirements to EU-wide directives like Posted Workers, even court rulings that set precedent.
- Building custom risk assessments for clients, whether based on employee mobility plans or global events (like managing cross-border compliance during Covid-19).
- Advising customers on the risk of fines and penalties, while observing how different organisations define and tolerate risk.
Customer Success
What energises me most is:
- Technology itself — how it grows, evolves, and demands continuous learning.
- Communication at all levels:
- Breaking down technical concepts for customers.
- Translating product features into business impact for executives.
- Delivering engaging internal and external trainings.
- Crisis management:
- Handling incident response and escalations with calm focus.
- Rebuilding trust through clear action plans and consistent delivery.
Academia
As a Politics graduate and globetrotter, I’ve always been fascinated by how geopolitical forces shape business and technology, a curiosity that never really left me.
The Common Thread
Looking back, the through line is clear:
- I thrive when navigating complex regulations and risks.
- I enjoy translating complexity into clarity for others.
- I’m energised by technology, problem-solving, and continuous learning.
